161 Chemical Technology and Engineering
ABOUT SPECIALTY Field of Study: 16 Chemical and Bioengineering Programme of Study 161 Chemical Technology and Engineering General characteristics of the specialty: Development, engineering design, installation, operation and improvement of techniques and methods of obtaining and using energy-saturated materials (explosives, gunpowder, solid rocket fuel, pyrotechnic compositions) and products based on them. Development of technology for their industrial production, operation of automated productions, machines and apparatuses for the production of energy condensed systems, conversion and dual technologies.
Place and role of specialty in Ukrainian economy: - energy-saturated materials form the basis of the country's defense potential. They are based on all types of weapons, including intercontinental ballistic missiles; - the use of energy-saturated materials has a fundamental impact on the development of science and technology, the economy of the country and the standard of living of the population; - energy-saturated materials are successfully used in the fight against fires, as well as natural hazards (droughts, hailstorms and avalanches).
The specialist should know:
- Fundamentals in chemistry, physics, advanced mathematics, geology, hydrology, ecology and other engineering fields for the purpose of modeling and solving specific engineering problems; - Theoretical aspects and laws of chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics in production conditions for the calculation of physic and chemical parameters, selection and justification of optimal parameters for the preparation of technological regulations or specifications.
The specialist should be able to: • determine the physical and chemical parameters of technological processes, and make decisions for their adjustment; • develop new and upgrade existing chemical and technological schemes for products produce; • control the technological parameters of the chemical-technological processes and make decisions for their adjustment; • control the state of radiation situation by devices and systems of radiation monitoring; • organize and to control the nuclear, environmental and radiation safety of objects and territories; • carry out a technological process of liquid radioactive wastes processing; • carry out the decontamination processes of different configuration surfaces; • carry out a technological process from processing of dumps from uranium-mining enterprises to obtain the nuclear fuel; • operate equipment for the treatment of radioactive wastes; • operate and maintain the systems for special water and gas treatment at nuclear power plants; • carry out a laboratory tests; • determine the physical and chemical indicators of drinking and natural water quality; • analyze and to control the wastewater treatment process; • operate and to carry out the inspections of the technical condition of facilities, process and auxiliary equipment for wastewater treatment; • develop technological schemes of sewage and industrial water treatment concerning modern equipment.
